To All WDO Members Counties & Super Leagues

The Welsh darts Organisation In line with the World Darts Federation, Youth in sport strategy have set up the Young Dragons Darts Association to provide a recognised national “Age Grade” darts development structure to increase participation at all levels of the sport in Wales.

The structure will provide the opportunity to introduce young people both boys and girls from the age of Under 8 to 18 years into the game to enjoy learning to play darts, offering a route map for the local junior player to progress through the system to become Welsh County and International Dart Players, and hopefully World Champions of the future.

Age grade sport is now a specialised development area requiring a sound administration structure that can provide a sense of purpose and direction, continuity of the development process, the wellbeing, social welfare and safeguarding of participant’s and the accountability of finance.

The Young Dragons Darts Association will provide a recognised credible national junior & youth administration and create a pathway of progression for the development of the sport of age grade amateur darts without discrimination throughout the country of Wales. The Young Dragons executive and area development officers will provide the help and support for properly constituted darts academies to be set up in local communities giving guidance on how to organise activities and apply for funding for essential equipment such has darts stands, dart boards, surrounds etc. and how to provide for the disabled.

To under pin the current Welsh County Youth and national teams there will be a talent identification process based on the learning program, along with a new Wales only mixed under 16 & under 18, inter-academy development super league based on county lines. To facilitate progression and a transition into senior darts there will also be an Under 21 initiative.

We are currently working with Sport Wales, UK Coaching & 1st4Sport in providing support for the initiative World Professional Champion & World No1 Gerwyn Price, Masters & Premier League Champion Jonny Clayton, Welsh Ladies Champion Rhian O Sullivan have given their full support as our ambassadors.

It is hoped new community based Young Dragons academies will be set up in all of the current WDO county boundaries, and will be supported by the senior county & super league administrators and players alike. “We want people to be proud of the crest on their chest, strive to succeed and play for Wales”
